Each Memorial Day, our nation pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. At St. Peter’s, this day is truly sacred — a time to gather as a community, lift up our voices in prayer and song, and pay tribute to the fallen.
We invite you to join us on Monday, May 26 at 11:00 AM for our Annual Community Memorial Day Service. This deeply moving event brings together neighbors, veterans, families, and friends in a shared moment of remembrance and gratitude.
This year’s preacher is Dr. Brad DeVore, LCDR, USN, whose dual callings to faith and military service bring a profound perspective to this day of reflection.
Dr. Benjamin (Brad) DeVore, Lieutenant Commander (SEL), US Navy, was born in Long Beach, CA and got his Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology from UCSB. He completed his master’s in psychology at Lipscomb University, and went on to obtain his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech before completing his internship at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. He will finish his post-doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at UCSD in August, and will continue serving in the Navy as a neuropsychologist thereafter.
Brad originally enlisted in the US Coast Guard Reserves in 2013 and was promoted to E-6 before receiving his commission in the Navy. He was selected for promotion to O-4 in 2025 and will put on the rank in September. He helped run one of the largest substance abuse prevention centers in the Navy during the COVID pandemic then served as the Command Psychologist aboard the USS Harry S Truman from 2021 – 2023, deploying to the Mediterranean in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He is married to Jaclyn DeVore and he is the proud father of their daughter, Madelyn.
Through hymns, scripture, and prayer, we will honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served our nation with valor. One of the most solemn moments of the service will be the Memorial Roll Call, a reading of the names of military members who died in active service. This tradition is our way of ensuring that each name — each life — is remembered with reverence.
If you would like to include a loved one in the Roll Call, please fill out this form by May 15, and include the individual's rank, full name, and branch of service.
The service will conclude with Taps, a haunting and beautiful bugle call that has become a final farewell to those who served.
This event is open to all — whether you’re a long-time member of our parish or simply seeking a place to remember and reflect, you are welcome.
Let us stand together in gratitude and remembrance as we honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
