Lectors at St. Peter’s

Giving Voice to God’s Word

At St. Peter’s, we believe God’s Word comes alive when it’s spoken and heard in community. Our lectors carry the sacred responsibility of proclaiming Scripture during worship, helping all of us hear the stories of faith in a fresh and powerful way. This is a ministry of presence, faithfulness, and service—and we invite you to consider adding your voice.

Why Become a Lector?

Many people hesitate to step into this role because they feel nervous about public speaking or wonder if their voice is “good enough.” The truth is, being a lector is not about performance—it’s about sharing God’s Word with love and sincerity. When you serve as a lector:

  • You deepen your connection with Scripture.

  • You build confidence in speaking and leadership.

  • You offer a gift that strengthens and inspires the entire congregation.

This ministry is a blessing both to those who hear and to those who proclaim.

How it Works

You’re never alone in your preparation—we provide guidance, resources, and encouragement every step of the way. Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for the Sunday(s) you’d like to read

  2. Download the weekly bulletin to view your passage (bulletins are typically uploaded to the website on Thursdays)

  3. Practice reading the passage aloud a few times before Sunday (use this pronunciation guide if needed)

  4. Enjoy proclaiming God’s Word!
