GenerateHope: Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Lives

GenerateHope is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing long-term, comprehensive support for women who have survived sex trafficking. Established in 2009 by Susan Munsey and members of Harbor City Church in San Diego, California, GenerateHope offers a safe and compassionate environment where survivors can heal and rebuild their lives.

GenerateHope was founded in response to the critical need for comprehensive healing services for women who have survived sex trafficking. Since its inception, the organization has served more than 160 women, helping them break the cycle of exploitation and move toward lives of stability and independence.

As the first on-site, integrated recovery program for survivors in San Diego, GenerateHope provides a wide range of essential services designed to meet each woman’s unique needs. These services include safe residential housing, individualized case management, trauma-informed psychotherapy, medical, dental, and psychiatric care, and a variety of adjunct therapies.

The organization’s Recovery Program offers a secure, structured home for women age 18 and older, including private bedrooms, daily support, therapy, and vocational guidance.

The Transition Program focuses on guided, independence, helping participants pursue college education, internships, and meaningful, living-wage employment.

GenerateHope also provides comprehensive education services, including high school completion, college preparation, and job readiness training in writing, mathematics, financial literacy, and resume development.

Therapeutic services include specialized individual and group counseling, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as holistic healing opportunities such as yoga, dance, surf therapy, and equine therapy.

Through dedicated case management, each woman is supported in accessing critical social services and community resources, empowering her to achieve her goals and build a healthy, independent future.

The St. Peter’s Thrift Shop and Outreach Committee are pleased to announce that GenerateHope has been selected for the third consecutive year, as one of our grant recipients for the month of May, 2026. We are honored to continue supporting GenerateHope and their extraordinary work in restoring lives, offering hope, and strengthening our community.
