The Reverend Canon Robert A. Nelson, Deacon

Deacon Bob Nelson

Ordained to the diaconate June 9, 2001, after serving 38 years in city management for five California cities, Deacon Bob is a graduate of UCLA in business education. He attended USC in public administration (but as a Bruin he doesn’t share that with many). He completed his diaconal formation at the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont (ETSC).  Bob has served on the staffs of Good Samaritan, San Diego (2000-03); St. Peter's, Del Mar (2003-10); and St. Anne's, Oceanside (2010-12).  In October 2012 Bishop James Mathes designated Deacon Bob as deacon-at-large rotating to several parishes for 7 to 12-week periods introducing the diaconate and encouraging parish involvement in spreading the Gospel in the community.

He credits his Cursillo journey which started April 1996 as having a major influence in his walk with Christ. Deacon  Bob's service to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego includes: diocesan council, budget committee, committee on ordained ministry, property committee, and from April 2016 to December 31, 2019 as archdeacon. On November 9, 2019, he was commissioned a canon of the diocese.  He is pleased to be able to return to St. Peter’s as a deacon to assist the parish in serving all people, particularly the poor, the weak, the sick, and the lonely.
