Outreach

“…Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these…you did it to me…”
Matthew 25:40

Our mission is to show forth Christ’s love to those in need beyond our own parish community, addressing basic human needs for the lost, the least, and the forgotten.

The work of the Outreach Ministry Team involves the review of local, national, and international programs brought to the attention of the group by its members, as well as other parishioners and church leaders. Following the review, which involves a presentation of the program to the committee, the members then decide on the issuing of grants to the program. The grants involved consist of both one-time and on-going disbursements of funds.

The Outreach Ministry provides over $55000 in direct donations of money and goods to over 25 programs serving individuals and families in our local, national, and international communities. These funds are generated from the St. Peter’s Thrift Shop. The need is considerable and the task is a formidable one. Care and thought go into evaluating each request, and programs are being continually reevaluated by the team members.

Funded programs are those that are working towards the goals of the Episcopal Church’s ONE Campaign to eradicate poverty at home and in the world. This campaign is based on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted by all members of the United Nations in 2000. These goals are:

Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Achieve universal primary education
Promote gender equality and empower women
Reduce child Mortality
Improve maternal health
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
