Fellowship
St. Peter’s Fellowship Ministry is a truly blessed organization due to its members and the wonderful involvement of St. Peter’s with the Ministry’s events. The Webster Dictionary’s definition of fellowship articulates it as “a mutual sharing, as of experience, activity, interest; a group of people with the same interests, company, brotherhood.” These two sentences reflect well our mission of creating events that foster a closer community within St. Peter’s, while reaching out to new members by giving them an avenue outside of church services to become better acquainted with others.
Our committee meets monthly, also confirming and communicating events and tasks via email for those who cannot attend. We are responsible for Easter Tea, Summer Picnic in the Park, Supper Club and Christmas Dinner.
EASTER TEA
Easter Tea is a long-standing tradition that continues to be exceptionally popular. By offering a central place for adults and children to gather, the joy and blessing of Easter is beautifully captured. The food, children’s activities, flowers and camaraderie entices not only regular parishioners to stay and experience the wonder of Easter, but also warmly and comfortably welcomes new members into our community.
The Fellowship Ministry organizes volunteers for food preparation four weeks before Easter by setting up a sign-up sheet after all the services; additionally, the committee follows-up with all the volunteers to ensure they can still provide and drop off food prior to the Easter service they are attending.. The flowers, food and time donated by the families of St. Peter’s graciously reflect the parish that we are; new parishioners are taken by this and have commented often that was their reason for joining.
SUMMER PICNIC IN THE PARK
The Summer Picnic has been organized to coincide with one of the most popularly-attended Concerts in the Park, Del Mar, The Mar Dels. We select a designated area for the Parish to meet, monitor St. Peter’s parking lot, and enjoy a great turn-out. Food, cake, music and sunshine are usually abundant! We are always open to new venues to bring in more parishioners so suggestions are welcomed!
SUPPER CLUB
Supper Club is an opportunity to purposely mix people, reflecting our mission of introducing new members to existing members and has proven to be quite successful. Groups exist of approximately 8 to 10 people and the individual Supper Club’s decide when and where they will meet, with members typically contributing to the dinner with individual items. At the end of the Supper Club run, which usually spans October – May, a Supper Club Finale is held in the Parish Hall, and it is always open to all parishioners. A theme is chosen for the Supper Club Finale and the past two years have seen a Hoe-Down with a square-dancing calling and Cinco de Mayo with Mexican dancers.
CHRISTMAS DINNER
St. Peter’s Christmas Dinner is always a sold-out affair! The Fellowship Ministry creates what many say is a truly elegant evening. Hors d’eouvres are held outside, with dinner and dessert served in the Parish Hall. The beautifully decorated tables, lighting and flowers only add to the conversation and warmth of the night. The evening ends with Christmas carols which kept people in long after dessert and coffee is served. The Fellowship Ministry has heard from many parishioners how special they think the dinner is and Fellowships looks forward to repeating such a night in the years ahead.
Our Ministry team has greatly expanded and we are blessed with those who have become integral members and cherished friends. We greatly appreciate the energy, ideas and excitement our new members bring and the support and guidance of those who have been long involved, and we look forward to strengthening the ties and community of St. Peter’s.
