Jesus' World: Life and times in 1st Century CE Israel; 3rd, 10th and 31st at 10 a.m.
Forums available on Sermon Player! If you want to understand why Elvis Presley had such a seismic effect on American life in the 1950s, you need to know a little about the way he synthesized the styles of Country, Gospel and African -American Rhythm & Blues. To really enjoy Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn, it helps to know a little about life on the Mississippi in the mid-19th century. Likewise, to truly understand Jesus of Nazareth - his message, his mission, and his ministry - you need to appreciate the specifics of the culture he inhabited - second Temple Judaism under the Roman military occupation at the beginning of the 1st Century CE. In a series of forums this month, our parishioner David Moseley will explore with us the history, politics, social system, economic situation, and religious factions that energized the world in which Jesus lived. These forums will be a prelude to a series exploring all four Gospels later in the Spring. Forums were held in the Parish Hall at 10:00 a.m. on
Sunday 3rd, 10th and 31st of January 2010.
