what to expect for sunday worship

As you reach the church entrance, you will be welcomed by an usher who will hand you a program for the service, including an outline of the worship, information about the parish, our prayer list and a calendar and description of happenings and programs around the parish. Stepping into the church, you will be greeted by the rich color and warmth of our redwood building and encounter the sunlight bathing all of the Judson-designed stained glass windows that cover every wall of the space. At the west end of the church, you will see the largest of our windows framed on either side by the rear set of our organ pipes. Looking to the east of the church, you will see the sanctuary and altar set against a backdrop of the main ranks of organ pipes, flanked on by the cathedral-style trancepts.

In this very English looking, “wooden country cathedral”, we think you will sense the sweet Spirit of God and the holiness of the space that is filled with the worship, songs and prayers of our members for nearly 70 years. In the church’s simple beauty and the peace of this space, we hope you will find the intimate experience of God you seek. As you are seated in a pew, we hope you will engage in the quietude of prayer of those already present and enter into prayer yourself, as we all prepare for the miracle and wonder of the Holy Eucharist where the Word of God and the Sacrament of Holy Communion meld into the fullness of worship that has been the heart of Christian liturgy for two millennia. While each of our worship services is quite unique, you will find this same center in each one. (See Our Worship to find the one that might best fit your needs.) In addition, during the worship, easy to follow oral instructions are periodically given to help all the worshippers, especially the newcomers, follow along with the liturgy and comfortably find their way through the service.

In the midst of the service, you will be welcomed by the rector and asked to join us as we walk this journey of faith together. If you are baptized, you will be invited to receive the Sacrament. If not you are welcome at the Altar rail to receive a blessing. (See Baptism) After the service you will be greeted by the celebrant and invited to join our fellowship time on the patio and/or to attend one of our adult education programs in the Parish Hall.
