Altar Guild
The Altar Guild of St. Peter’s serves under the guidance of the rector to prepare the church and the altar for all the worship services during the week and weekends, including the special services for funerals and memorials. Preparing the altar involves maintaining the priests’ vestments, altar linens, the candlesnuffers-lighters; maintaining the inventory of wine, wafers and candles; setting-up the altar and cleaning-up for each service; preparing the boxes for the services in La Vida Del Mar and Brighton Gardens; and each week arranging the flowers behind the altar. Preparing the church involves the tidying of the books and cleaning/dusting the sanctuary area.
Currently, there are 22 active members, 3 members in training, and 3 on the substitute list. Among the active members, there are 9 who arrange flowers. A weekly team of 4 members serves on rotation basis throughout the year – a team leader, a flower arranger, and two members. The 5th member of the weekly team is a member in training.
The weekly flower donations, the special Christmas and Easter flower donations, and the funds from wedding services support the purchase of wine, wafers, candles, sanctuary lights, altar flowers, altar linens, and miscellaneous supplies. The buying of new vestments, replacement of the silver communion vessels, and replacement of the brass candleholders rely on generous donations from the parishioners in memory of their loved ones.
The Altar Guild members serve the Lord with dedication, devotion and humility. Guided by the rector and the able assistance of the multi-talented sexton, they will continue to prepare the church for worship.
New members would be welcomed with open arms. Parishioners, who wish to be a member of the Altar Guild, are invited to contact the rector.
