St Nicholas Choristers
Registration for the St. Nicholas Choristers is found here!
The St Nicholas Choristers are comprised of 12-15 mixed trebles (boys & girls) who form the treble line with support from the Parish Choir (ATB).
With a strong commitment from the church and from parents, our chorister program teaches discipline, consistency, and excellence. This program is much more than a typical after-school activity. It is an exceptional educational opportunity, and can be an essential part of a child's learning and development. Here at St Peter's, choristers are introduced to a world of great music: from traditional hymns and Gregorian chants, to Renaissance motets in Latin, Bach in German, and English cathedral music from among the most prized gems our of Anglican choral and liturgical heritage.
Great emphasis is give to music-reading skills, basic vocal production, and overall musicianship. The program is modeled after the musical education a child might receive in the great English cathedrals and other choral foundations. After several years in our choir, boys and girls develop trained voices, refined skills of tuning and blend with other singers, and for many exceptional sight-reading abilities.
Beyond our musical work together, the choir shares many occasions of fun and fellowship, from movie outings to ice-skating and pizza. Lifelong friends are made as choristers and as choir parents; carpools, daytrips, and parties, enriched by the wonder of making music together, encouraging teamwork and bonding rarely found in other activities.
The St Nicholas Choristers are open to children (boys: unbroken voice and girls) aged 7 to 18 regardless of music experience or religious affiliation. The St Nicholas Choristers follow the Voice for Life chorister training scheme and are affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music, America and the Royal School of Church Music, UK.
At present, the choristers sing twice a month for the Choral Eucharist, in addition to Choral Evensong several times a year.
