Bible Studies
Bible Study Information: Bible Study allows God to speak to us through the Scriptures. There are many ways to approach Bible Study ranging from scholarly to contemplative. St. Peter's offers a range of Bible Study opportunities. These differ in style and intensity: from a 4 year seminary level course (EfM), through small study groups meeting weekly, to support for daily devotionals for personal use.
Monday Morning
This Bible Study is currently on Sabbatical. If this time works for you and you are interested in participating when it returns, please contact Mtr Paige at pblair@stpetersdelmar.net so she can let you know when it resumes.
The Monday Bible Study meets in the library from 10:30 - 12:00. We go through entire books of the Bible, generally alternating between Old Testament and New Testament. We follow a pattern suggested by Verna Dozier: (1) Clarify what the passage is saying; (2) Clarify what it meant to the people for whom it was written; (3) Reflect on what the passage means for us today. During the past years we have studied Isaiah, Hebrews, the “minor” prophets and the Gospel according to Matthew..
Tuesday Morning
The Tuesday Morning Bible Study begins shortly after 7:30 following Eucharist at 7 AM. Presently we have 19 people in the group and average 12 in attendance. We use the Inductive Method which prescribes: What does it say? What does it mean? How am I going to apply it in my life? We take an in-depth approach penetrating several layers of bible interpretation by asking questions that are springboards for lively discussion and sharing of our lives. We rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we study, discover, and apply the passages we cover. Currently we are studying The Acts of the Apostles. We welcome any new members who would like to join is in this adventure. Bible study is actually fun and rewarding. The 7 AM Eucharist is optional, and some members come directly to the bible study.
Women’s Bible Study
St. Peter’s Women’s Bible Study meets at 1:00 on Thursday afternoons at the home of Connie Hays in Solana Beach with Pat Van Gorder as the guide. We have just begun a twelve-week study in Genesis. It’s not too late to join us! The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings which tells us about the beginning of our universe and the beginning of humanity. This study explores the endless power and incomprehensible love of the God who created us and cares for us individually and personally.
Each session is approximately 60 to 90 minutes long. The study is designed to be used with the Good News New Testament; page numbers are given to make finding the Bible references easy. The studies are written in an easy-to-use format so that new and mature Christians alike can learn more about God and grow in their relationship with Him. Please contact Pat Van Gorder for more information.
