“So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead…”
Our mission is to show forth Christ’s love to those in need beyond our own parish community, addressing basic human needs for the lost, the least, and the forgotten.
In 2011, the Missions Outreach Ministry provided approximately $40,000 in direct donations of money and goods to a number of programs serving individuals and families in our local, national, and international communities, as well as participating in a number of ‘hands on” projects. The need is considerable and the task is a formidable one – especially in today’s economy where donations to these organizations are down. Care and thought go into evaluating each request, and programs are being continually reevaluated by the team members.
The members of our Missions Outreach Ministry are committed to financially supporting the programs and organizations we believe in. We chose programs and organizations because each of them is represented by our members, and the members have good knowledge of how they operate. The programs and organizations we financially supported in 2011 are in four categories:
1. Programs at St. Peter’s we support -- Helping Hands, Interfaith Shelter held in our Parish Hall, Projects for Carol’s House by Solo Journey, and Rachel’s Women’s Center;
2. Organizations affiliated with our diocese – Camp Stevens, Episcopal Community Services, Episcopal Refugee Network and St. Paul’s Senior Homes and Services;
3. Organizations that are local and national – Community Resource Center, Episcopal Relief and Development, Interfaith Shelter Network and St. Leo’s Clinic;
4. Organizations that help our international neighbors – Dorcas House, Episcopal Relief and Development, Esperanza Health Clinic and Joy to the World Kindergarten, Namibia.
If you would like to join us in our ministry of prayerful allocation of the resources entrusted to us, please contact Suzanne Foucault, Chairperson, Outreach Committee, or The Rev. Joe Dirbas, clergy liaison to the Outreach Committee.
