The primary goal of St. Peter's acolyte ministry is to provide our youth and young adults from the ages of approximately eight to 18 with the opportunity to serve the Lord on a more personal basis through active participation in our services from the vantage-point of the altar. The Church asks each acolyte to absorb important aspects of our Anglican liturgy, to conduct oneself with dignity throughout the service, and to sincerely enjoy doing so. This requires a high level of commitment from each acolyte and his/her parents so that the program meets its objectives and serves the Parish as it is intended to. Our Ministry normally numbers about 20 of such committed acolytes who are also interested in a more involved role as crucifiers, servers, and torchers assisting our clergy with our communal worship experience. We continue to build our team of dedicated young adults so that we will have upcoming replacements for our high school seniors that graduate each year. Individual training is provided by the Acolyte Director who draws on many years of experience as an acolyte, and as a person who is dedicated to working with young people. The Acolyte Director carefully prepares monthly schedules so that each acolyte serves on a once-a-month basis.
Each summer, the entire group is invited to attend "St. Peter's Annual Night at the Padres", which is made possible by a member of the Parish who is also part of the Padres' senior management. We are very grateful for this opportunity each year because the evening is certainly one to remember.
Every member of our Acolyte Ministry uses his/her service as a joyful expression of our faith, and as an outward demonstration of the importance of St. Peter's in our Christian experience.
St. Peter’s Acolyte Directors are comprised of a team of adults who recruit, direct, train, schedule, and serve as advocates for our group of acolytes. Success as an Acolyte Director requires an insightful knowledge of our Anglican Liturgy, regular presence at services where acolytes participate, joyful interaction with our acolytes, and a dedication to their spiritual development.
