ST. PETER’S BUDGET 101 – PART II:  Do you ever wonder what the sources are for St. Peter’s $1.12M annual operating budget? Do you wonder where your pledge dollars go and how decisions are made about where we allocate funds? Are you curious about what ministries in our community and in the world St. Peter’s supports with your help? Our treasurer, Dave Clemons, will discuss these and other topics at the second of his forums on Sunday, July 27, 10:10-11:00 am in the Parish Hall.

THIS SUNDAY - NOTES AND DRAWINGS FOR MIGRANT CHILDREN:  Again this Sunday, we invite you to join us in sending love and support to migrant children to let them know we are holding them in prayer by writing a note or drawing a picture (supplies will be provided on tables on the patio). When visits are arranged to shelters housing refugee children, The California Endowment will print them out, translate and bring them to the children directly. We hope our messages of comfort, compassion, and kindness will lift the children's spirits and remind them that they're not alone.

THIS SUNDAY! ST. PETER’S DAY AT THE RACES:  This year we have two days to share at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club--- Sunday (July 27 for $35) and Pacific Classic Day (August 24 for $50). These seats are reserved tables on the Clubhouse Terrace. For additional information, contact Susie Hayes at susanstonehayes@gmail.com or 858-342-9596.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL THIS WEEK:  St. Peter’s is hosting VBS on campus this upcoming week. This year’s theme is “Workshop of Wonders.” Please welcome our 33 campers and the many student and adult volunteers!

BACK 2 SCHOOL BASH:  Back 2 School Bash is a collaborative diocesan project to collect backpacks and school supplies for low-income families. During the next several weeks we will be collecting school supplies and backpacks, as well as donations to purchase shoes, socks, and undergarments. There will be collection bins on the patio on Sundays. Please have your donations to Leeann Gooding (lgooding@stpetersdelmar.net) by Sunday, August 3.

NEXT SUNDAY – “THRIFT SHOP EXPRESS” RETURNS:  “Thrift Shop Express” will be open on the patio Sunday, August 3 between services. Please come shop for lovely treasures, many brand new and a few gently used.

CENTERING PRAYER GROUP:  Starting Tuesday, August 5, St. Peter’s Centering Prayer Group will offer a 30-minute period of meditative prayer. SARUM MASS FOR THE FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION AT ALL SOULS’ POINT LOMA:  On Wednesday, August 6, at 6:00 pm All Souls’ Point Loma will observe the Feast of The Transfiguration. This Mass will include medieval mass settings and chant propers and incorporate liturgical traditions from the medieval Sarum Use of the Roman Rite. Replete with “bells and smells (incense),” this is a great opportunity to experience the glory and beauty of worship. The mass will be followed by potluck reception in their parish hall. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Joe Dirbas (jdirbas@allsoulspointloma.org).

AUGUST FORUMSFrom Jesus of Nazareth to Christianity in America. Please join us at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall, as Hank George presents this three-part series tracing the origins and development of Christianity to its modern forms as practiced in North America. The series is an exploration of a world religion and a search for the following answers: Who was Jesus of Nazareth? How did his followers grow and develop a belief system? How did this belief system vary through time? How is this faith practiced in North America? What are the elements of a church community, parish, or congregation?

  • August 31:           Part 3  -  Ethnography
NAME BADGES, NAME BADGES… Please wear your name tags as a kindness to Rev. Martha as she learns all our names.... then keep wearing them as a kindness to newcomers as they learn our names, and as a kindness to those of us whose memories are not what they used to be.... Thanks!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENAGERS THIS SUMMER AT ST. PETER’S THRIFT SHOP:  St. Peter’s Thrift Shop is looking for reliable teenagers to volunteer a minimum of two hour shifts during the summer months. We realize many of our teens are very busy with sports and academics during the school year and summer is a terrific time to get those pesky service hours out of the way. There are a wide variety of tasks, including tagging clothing items, straightening shelves, helping transport items in/out of the shop or to customers’ cars. For additional information or to sign up, contact Chris Miller, Shop Manager, at 858-481-1945 or on her cell at 760-445-9445.

EPISCOPAL WEEKLY BULLETIN INSERTS:  These weekly bulletin inserts provide information about the history, music, liturgy, mission, and ministry of The Episcopal Church and can be found at http://episcopaldigitalnetwork.com/stw/bulletin-inserts/.

Each year on July 29, the church celebrates the Feast of Mary, Martha and Lazarus of Bethany. These siblings, who lived in the village of Bethany near Jerusalem, are described in the gospels of Luke and John as not only being devout followers of Jesus, but being his close friends as well. Read the full article at the website above.

8/23 Dorcas House Visit

Don’t Say Goodbye to Summer without Saying Hello to the Kids!

The children of Dorcas House/Vida Joven in Tijuana invite you to visit them on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 9:00am.  Dorcas House/Vida Joven is a foster home for children who are particularly vulnerable; about 60% of the children have parents who are incarcerated.  All ages are welcome on the trip.  Spanish is not required, but a valid passport is mandatory.  Please note our new start time of 9:00am.  Also note: we will drive into Tijuana together rather than walking across the border.  Pre-registration required.  For more details, and to register for the trip, please visit www.dorcas-house.org/my-visit, or contact Beth Beall, bbeall@dorcas-house.org.

For Information about Dorcas House, click here.

Pilgrimage Walk Additional Fundraiser

Pilgrimage Walk Additional Fundraiser for ERN and Fire Rescue:  The St. Peter’s Pilgrims have returned from their fabulous walk across England, but are still sponsoring an additional giving opportunity. Further funds raised will be split between two charities: Episcopal Refugee Network and The San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation. To donate, visit the donations page on the St. Peter’s website (www.stpetersdelmar.net/give and click “Donate Now”) or the Pilgrims’ Coast-to-coast Walk site (www.stpeterscoastwalk.webs.com and click on the “Donate” button on the top left).
